A 11 track techno album (54m 41s) — released June 29th 2009 on Exceptional Records

Award-winning producer and DJ Ben Medcalf aka The Rogue Element is back with his highly anticipated follow up to 2005's debut Rogue Rock, an album packed full of surprises and top drawer dance floor stompers. A thread of dark atmospherics runs through the new album also punctuated by brighter, melodic and optimistic moments. Unconventional arrangements on tracks such as 'Binary Suite', 'In Place' and 'An Unsavoury Urge' give insight into The Rogue's compositional sensibilities and rival peers such as Booka Shade and Trentemoller. 'Mistakes' boasts the only full vocal on the album and it is an electronic indie anthem in the making. The track features the vocals of up and coming Welsh singer, Luc Prosser whose delivery echoes Spiritualized's Jason Pierce. 'Lumina' is not short of pure peak time dance-floor monsters either. In addition to 'Hive', 'Escalation' and 'Sidewinder' which are all included here, the title track is an epic techno odyssey and contender as a single as is 'Sore Tooth' which is probably the brightest track on the album with its shimmering synth-lines and disco roots. This album looks set to continue Rogue's already impressive ascent from newcomer to major player in the electronic scene. In 2005 he won 'Best Breakthrough Producer', then going on to claim the titles for 'Best Producer' and 'Best Remix' in 2006. The Rogue Element has remixed dozens of top-level artists including The Crystal Method, Stanton Warriors, Fatboy Slim and Noisia, more recently venturing into indie land with mixes for the Broken Family Band and Franz Ferdinand. His uniquely idiosyncratic blend of techno, breakbeat, and electro has led heavy duty acclaim and support from such varied luminaries as James Zabiela, Etienne de Crecy, Audiojack, Meat Katie, James Lavelle, DJ Hell, Autokratz and the Japanese Popstars.

'Rogue Rock' might have soundtracked a great night out, but 'Lumina' has the emotional depth and intelligence of a real album. 4 out of 5 stars - James Kendall DJ Magazine
